John Lennox - The “Seven Days” of Genesis 1 and Science
Monday Nov 05, 2018
Monday Nov 05, 2018
The understanding of the creation narrative in Genesis is a hot topic. Many secular people see Geneis 1 as a reason for discarding the Bible. Many Christians feel they must choose between science and the Bible.
John Lennox here that punctures many myths about both science and the Bible. He proposes an approach to reading and interpreting the first chapters of Genesis without discounting either science or Scripture. (This seminar is based on his book: “Seven Days That Divide the World”, now translated to Norwegian)

Despite its historical prominence in the church, apologetics used to be viewed with suspicion in many Christian circles. Today, however, we are experiencing an apologetic renaissance across the evangelical world. This is promising, as we are called to bear witness to Jesus Christ in our secular and pluralistic world. We always need to “be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks [us] to give the reason for the hope that [we] have” (1 Pet. 3:15).
In order to be equipped, we naturally turn to the New Testament for inspiration and guidance. The most commonly used biblical model for apologetics is Paul’s Areopagus Speech in Acts 17:22-31. However, despite its huge popularity, this passage is often misunderstood or misapplied.
In this webinar, therefore, we take a fresh look at Paul in Athens (Acts 17:16-34) as an apologetic model for today.
In order to do that, we will focus on six key questions:
· What are the common misunderstandings and misapplications of this significant passage?
· What can we learn about an appropriate understanding of this passage from Luke’s overall intentions with Luke and the book of Acts?
· How does Paul approach an audience (such as the Areopagus Council) which is both critical and curious?
· How can we learn from Paul to identify points of contact in the worldviews held by the audience?
· What is Paul’s overall apologetic argument in his Areopagus Speech and how can that argument be applied by us today?
· How can we learn from Paul to identify points of tension in the worldviews held by the audience?
